UK: Harman Pro UK had announced details of another training day for live sound engineers wishing to find out more about the Soundcraft Vi6 digital live sound console (pictured). The event will be held a week this Friday (March 7th) at the head office of SSE Audio in Redditch. Also on an educative tip, Harman Pro UK has announced that it is to begin a regular series of free industry training sessions aimed at improving PA-related knowledge amongst retailers, with the first event to take place at the company’s headquarters in Potters Bar on April 16th, writes David Davies.
The Vi6 event will consist of two training sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with up to ten engineers catered for at each. In both cases, an initial technical presentation will be followed by small group sessions that enable each engineer to get some supervised hands-on time with the console. The morning training session will also include the opportunity to have lunch.
Anyone wishing to attend the training day must be a professional sound engineer (freelance or permanently employed) and derive at least half of their income from live sound work. Places are limited to 20 so early booking is advised.
Meanwhile, the PA School initiative follows on from a successful masterclass at last year’s Harman Roadshow, and aims to provide sales assistants and staff at audio retailers throughout the industry with a more thorough grounding in PA and sound reinforcement. Each session will take up an afternoon, at the end of which attendees “should know everything they need to sell a live rig to a small- to medium-sized band, from what microphones and amps to recommend, to loudspeakers and processing.”
The first event will be held at Harman Pro UK’s Potters Bar headquarters on April 16th, from 1pm. Following lunch and a tour of the Harman facility, attendees will move on to Harman’s soundproofed live demonstration rooms for the PA School itself, where they will work in groups of no more than ten. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-reserved basis.
