CHINA: An audio renewal project at the Guangzhou Xinhai Odeum performance venue on Guangzhou Er Sha Island in China has entailed the specification of EM Acoustics loudspeakers. The prestigious complex - home to a 1,500-seat symphony hall, 460-seat performance hall, 100-seat AV presentation room and a 'music culture' section - has become one of the primary centres of Guangdong society since it opened in 1998, reports David Davies.
The recent audio upgrade project commenced last year when EM Acoustics' Chinese distributor, Jolly ProAudio, was enlisted. The upshot was a 14-enclosure system, flown from the trusses in the Odeum's ceiling and comprising EMS-152 15-inch x 2-inch and EMS-121 12-inch x 1-inch full-range enclosures, EMS-81 8-inch x 1-inch enclosures and i-2 compact enclosures as fills. A pair of the ultra-compact i-8 subwoofers was also flown in the roof for low frequency reinforcement.
"The installation at Xinhai is testament to the progress of the EM Acoustics brand throughout the world," the manufacturer's operations director, Mike Wheeler, tells PSN-e. "A prestigious venue such as this taking on our products, backed up by the support of one of the best distributors in China, is exactly what we as a company are about."
Of the wider regional picture, he adds: "EM Acoustics' progress in the Far East has been slow and steady over the past year - however, with a distributor such as Jolly Pro Audio behind us, it shows great promise for the future. This installation is proof of their belief in the EM Acoustics brand, and of where they want to take the brand in the Far East."
An in-demand performance space, Xinhai has featured a long roll-call of international ensembles during recent years, including the Russian National Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Juariya Orchestral Quartet.
