EUROPE: Ampco Belgium reports strong Digidesign VENUE system sales in Holland, writes David Davies. Rental companies Story Sound and Menno Wolthuis Sound and Lights have both recently invested in VENUE systems, while the Paradiso Club in Amsterdam - widely regarded as one of the country's most distinguished live venues - has been outfitted with a VENUE D-Show. All systems were supplied by Digidesign's Benelux VENUE distributor, Ampco Belgium.

In the case of Story Sound, the addition of a D-Show Profile and Mix Rack system to an existing inventory of three full-size VENUE systems enables the company to offer a wider range of systems to its theatre-oriented customer base. Elsewhere, Menno Wolthuis Sound and Lights has added a VENUE system to its inventory by way of upgrading the company's analogue console stocks with a digital package able to cope with the demands of both the summer festival season and the 1,000-seat theatre commitments that dominate the company's winter schedule.

"Several of my staff engineers had suggested I have a look at the VENUE system," noted owner Menno Wolthuis, pictured here to the right of Ampco Belgium's sales, marketing and PR manager, Stef de Pooter. "After working with Ampco Belgium's system at the Eurosonic Festival, I was impressed enough to order a 48-in/16-out system immediately. It's just so fast and so versatile, and it's sonically superior to the other systems we auditioned."

In other recent Dutch VENUE news, the Paradiso Club in Amsterdam has installed a variety of Digidesign equipment as part of an upgrade to digital. The facility's new system includes a VENUE D-Show control surface (FOH) and a D-Show Profile (monitors), along with system racks, expansion cards, cabling and a ProTools|HD system.

According to de Pooter, the Paradiso Club installation - along with high-profile purchases by rental companies such as Dee Sound & Light and Flashlight/APR Belgium - has really helped to prise open the door for VENUE in Holland. "The Paradiso project made a lot of smaller clubs aware that going digital was no longer a major issue as one of the most important clubs in Holland had decided to go down that route," he tells PSN-e. "Both smaller and larger clubs are now calling us for demos and to discuss the various possibilities."

With Ampco Belgium also organising dedicated training sessions for freelance engineers and rental companies, de Pooter is optimistic about VENUE's future prospects across the region. "It's a fantastic product and the roadmap for the future looks very good," he says.
