EUROPE: A Midas XL8 console was at FOH for a-ha’s latest live dates, writes PSN-e. Unusually, the shows consisted of four distinct segments – the first three featuring the band members performing separately with their own groups, followed by a concluding a-ha set. The quintet of concerts – four held at the Oslo Rockerfeller Music Hall and one at London’s Royal Albert Hall – found FOH Sven Persson overseeing proceedings from a Midas XL8 Live Performance System.
According to Persson (pictured), the XL8’s automation capability was among the major plus points of the chosen system. “During pre-production I was able to prepare scenes for each act, which was invaluable as they all had big set-ups, with a totally different approach to sound,” he commented. “The XL8’s assured sound quality, and the way it is laid out, makes it very easy to operate when working with a lot of different acts, with such short changeovers. It was the first time I’d used it in a live situation, and I felt very comfortable from the start. Once again, this was largely down to the layout of the console because it feels like any other familiar Midas surface.”
The XL8 was supplied by Norwegian rental company Avab-Cac, of which Persson is a director.
