The winners of PSNEurope’s first ‘Best of Show for Prolight + Sound’ awards were revealed in the final hours of the Frankfurt event last week. Prize certificates have been presented to Funktion-One for VERO, JBL for EON ONE, Avid for the VENUE S6L, and Meyer Sound for the MJF-208.
The Best of Show awards recognise new and outstanding products, and were open to any company showing a product that had been launched since PL+S 2015.
An independent judge, consulting with the PSNEurope team, made the final selection.
Here are the verdicts…
Funktion-One VERO: “The result of a six-year R&D process, the much-anticipated VERO system was borne out of frustration with the overall standard of live audio. Consequently, it takes a ‘root and branch’ approach to satisfying live market requirements, delivering ‘conveniently arrayable’ audio via six highly efficient, low distortion horn-loaded loudspeakers. Power comes from Lab.gruppen PLM 20K44 amplifiers, allowing Audinate’s Dante media networking technology to be used for signal distribution. Time will tell, of course, but Funktion-One co-founder Tony Andrews’ hope that the VERO system will offer a ‘reset’ for live audio speaker technology could well be fulfilled.”
JBL EON ONE: “Aesthetically striking, this all-in-one PA system with 6-channel mixer will have escaped the attention of few visitors to the Harman stand. Intrinsically highly portable, the single-column speaker is bound to find favour with gigging musicians and DJs, as well as corporate venues, fitness studios and more. Plus, a listening test confirms that the audio is performance is clear, detailed and impactful.”
Avid VENUE S6L: “This fully modular, scalable live sound mixing system looks set to further strengthen Avid’s cross-disciplinary appeal, with obvious suitability for applications such as FOH, monitor, broadcast and theatre. All processing is conducted at 96kHz for the highest possible sound quality, whilst it’s also worth noting that the S6L is one of Avid’s most aesthetically pleasing products to date.”
Meyer Sound MJF-208: “With its compact (less than 13”/33cm high) and low in weight (sub-45lb/20kg) credentials, it’s easy to see why the portability and general ease of use angles are being emphasised with regard to the MJF-208 stage monitor. An early morning listening test at Prolight + Sound confirms that it is an eminently worthy addition to the product line that already features the MJF-212A and the MJF-210.”
All awards entrants and winners will appear online in the ‘Best of Show Prolight + Sound’ digital edition, coming soon.
