The third edition of the awards – due to take place on 11 January – has recorded entries from 32 different countries and a 15% increase in the number of participating festivals.

The winners of the Festival Awards Europe trophies are determined by a combination of public vote and industry juries. Public voting – which is taking place here (http://eu.festivalawards.com/) – runs from 24 October to 6 December.

This year’s award categories are as follows: Best Major European Festival, Best Medium-Sized European Festival, Best Small European Festival, Best New European Festival, Best Indoor Festival, Best European Festival Line-Up, YOUROPE Green ‘N’ Clean Festival Of The Year, Artist’s Favourite European Festival, Best Newcomer, Best Headliner, Festival Anthem of the Year, Virtual Festivals Europe presents Promoter Of The Year, and YOUROPE Lifetime Achievement Award.

Presented as a partnership between Festival Awards Ltd, YOUROPE and Eurosonic Noorderslag, the Festival Awards Europe will take place on Wednesday 11 January 2012 at Groningen’s De Oosterpoort in The Netherlands, on the opening night of Eurosonic Noorderslag.

James Drury, MD of event organiser Festival Awards Ltd, commented: “The response from festivals has been phenomenal. The Awards are all about recognising the hard work which goes into producing Europe’s diverse and vibrant festival industry, and having chance to celebrate the achievements of the past 12 months. Not only do they give the fans chance to tell festival organisers how much they enjoyed the events they went to, but we have a number of industry-focused awards, decided by panels of experts who will highlight those crucial behind-the-scenes elements which the public doesn’t usually consider.”
