UK: Focusrite Audio Engineering and the PMI Audio Group will each sponsor one award category, reports David Davies. The news follows on from the announcement that PPL and SADiE will serve as headline sponsors of the 2010 MPG (UK) Awards.

While Focusrite will sponsor the Best International Producer Award, PMI Audio Group will handle the honours in the Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production category. In addition, Focusrite will donate equipment to the winner of the Best International Producer Award.

PMI Audio Group consultant designer Malcolm Toft commented: "Five years ago we took over the Joemeek brand which, like the Music Producers Guild award, is named after the legendary UK producer. Given this synergy it made perfect sense for us to sponsor this award."

Meanwhile, MPG chairman Steve Levine said that it was "marvellous" to have the backing of the likes of Focusrite and PMI Audio. "The emphasis they place on quality reflects our philosophy that, in order to create music with longevity, you need talent at all levels," he noted. "Of course this includes musicians, artists and recording professionals, but it also encompasses equipment manufacturers who push the technological boundaries and provide the high quality tools we need to do our jobs."

Nominations have now closed for the 2010 Awards, and Full Members of the MPG are currently voting on the nominations in order to compile shortlists in each category. Where applicable, the categories will then be judged by a panel consisting of record industry experts including producers, engineers, artists, artist managers, A&R representatives, music journalists and radio presenters.

The MPG Awards 2010 will be held at the Cafe de Paris in London on February 11. Some sponsorship opportunities are still available, and any interested company should contact Sadie Groom at Bubble & Squeak (tel: +44 (0)207 387 4262; email sadie@bubblesqueak.co.uk, natalie@bubblesqueak.co.uk).
