SSE, Powersoft, Sound by Design nominated for multiple Pro Sound Awards

A closer look at some of this year's finalists.

Now that the dust has settled on Thursday’s big reveal of the Pro Sound Awards 2014 category finalists, we thought we’d take a closer look at some of the frontrunners.

Redditch, UK-based SSE Audio Group; Sound by Design, of Surrey, UK; and Italy’s Powersoft are all down to the final four in multiple categories – SSE in Install Team of the Year; Best Tour Sound Production (for Avicii’s recent European tour); and Best Theatre Sound (for Jesus Christ Superstar), Powersoft in Best Permanent Installation Project (for the Wall of Bass in Austria); Best Temporary Installation Project (for the Dortmund Supercross); and Marketing Initiative/Campaign of the Year (for the launch of the X Series of amplifiers) and Sound by Design in Best Permanent Installation Project and Install Team of the Year (both for the Royal Albert Hall).

Returning to the hallowed halls of the PSA finalists this year are Astar Studios and Snap Studios, both of which were also shortlisted in the Best Studio category in 2013, along with the tireless X Factor sound team, led by sound director Robert Edwards (that programme just goes on and on, doesn’t it?).

Special mention must also be made of Chris Mace, production engineer on the Harry Hill musical I Can’t Sing, who received testimonials from seemingly most of the industry in his nomination for the Best Theatre Sound category. A popular chap, our Chris…

As in 2013, the shortlists for each category will now be presented to a panel of judges from across the spectrum of the pro audio industry, who will ultimately choose the winners of each award (with the exception of the Grand Prix and Lifetime Achievement prizes, which will be chosen by the Awards team, and Rising Star, to be decided by Audio Pro International).

The big night is 25 September at the Ministry of Sound, London. Tickets are available now from the Pro Sound Awards website, and include entry to the Pre-Roll – our new-for-this-year early evening sessions of insight and discussion, in a panel/Q&A format, with leading figures from the industry – drinks reception, food and entry to the after-party. Book your tickets now.
