Professional wireless audio specialists, Raycom, have recently taken stock of two new products: Phonak Communications' Roger Earpiece (pictured) and the SSM wireless transmitter from Lectrosonics.

The Roger earpiece is the world’s first digital covert in ear audio monitor aimed at the broadcast and film market. Due to its fully integrated receiver and battery, there is no need for cables or belt packs, making it what is said to be the most discreet in-ear receiver available today.

The Roger Earpiece system uses Phonak’s proprietary technology in the license-free 2.4GHz band, with adaptive frequency hopping to deliver interference free clear audio with a bandwidth of 100Hz-7kHz and sound output of up to 100dB.

“Phonak’s miniature designs are legendary. The clarity and RF performance of Roger is very impressive and will certainly become a firm favourite with both sound specialists and talent alike,” says Andy Clements, Raycom's commercial director.

In keeping with the theme of 'discrete audio', Raycom has also announced the UK launch of the diminutive SSM wireless transmitter from Lectrosonics.

In spite of its impressively small size (55x35x15mm – about the same as a box of matches), the SSM offers an extensive feature set and performance on par with all Lectrosonics models.

Frequencies are selectable in 100 kHz or 25 kHz steps across a tuning range of 75Mhz, and the servo bias input accepts mic or line level signals with a wide range of gain adjustment in 1dB steps.

The limiter in the preamp can handle signal peaks over 30dB above full modulation, allowing the input gain to be set high enough to achieve the maximum signal to noise ratio, yet provide protection against input overload.

SSM is compatible with existing analogue Lectrosonics camera slot receivers and the new wideband Venue 2 rack mounted product.
