UK: PPL has joined Prism Sound and SADiE as headline sponsor of next year's trophy-giving event, writes David Davies. Following a highly successful first edition earlier this year (read PSN-e's coverage here), the Music Producers Guild (UK) Awards 2010 will take place at London's Caf_ de Paris on February 11.

Once again, the MPG will collaborate with the organisers of the BRITS to present the winner of its Producer of the Year category with a BRIT Award for Best Producer. Meanwhile, awards for Breakthrough Producer and Breakthrough Engineer will replace last year's Newcomer Award.

The full category list is: Producer of the Year - sponsored by BPI, BRITS 2010; Recording Engineer of the Year - sponsored by Prism Sound; Best Mix Engineer; Best Mastering Engineer - sponsored by SADiE; Best Live Album of The Year - sponsored by Shure; UK Album of The Year (09); UK Single of The Year (09); Best Re-mixer; the Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production; Breakthrough Producer - sponsored by Deep Recording Studios; Breakthrough Engineer; Best Studio - sponsored by Robertson Taylor; Best International Producer of the Year; Unsung Hero - sponsored by Alchemea College in association with Pro Sound News Europe; and the newly-created Outstanding Contribution to UK Music - sponsored by PPL.

Nominations are being taken now via the MPG website and are open to anyone who wants to put a name forward. There is also no bar on individuals nominating themselves, and the MPG is actively encouraging producers and engineers to do this.

Meanwhile, music licensing company PPL has become the third headline sponsor of the event, alongside Prism Sound and SADiE. The organisation is sponsoring the Outstanding Contribution to UK Music Award.

Jonathan Morrish (pictured), director of PR and corporate communications for PPL, tells PSN-e: "As our role expands, both in the UK and internationally, PPL has an ever-broadening remit which spans across the full range of our performer and record company members and beyond. Therefore it is entirely appropriate, particularly in our 75th anniversary year, for us to sponsor this new award to support and recognise an outstanding artist, creative or rights owner who has helped build a body of music over the years - which is what this wonderful industry is all about."
