Harman shifts AKG control to US from UK

Entertainment technology giant Harman Professional has relocated the management and reporting of its professional microphone and headphone division, AKG, to the USA. The 67-year-old Austrian brand will now be managed by JBL’s Bryan Bradley, GM, loudspeaker strategic business unit, in Northridge, California. The decision will see the appointment of a general manager reporting to Bradley as well as marketing and sales leads for Harman Microphones & Headphones.

In the move, AKG departs former control by the mixer business unit (Soundcraft and Studer) at Potters Bar in the UK. A spokesperson said this was in no way a negative reflection on the UK arm of the company; it was purely a “relocation of resources”. AKG’s Viennese HQ will now report into Northridge.

Making the announcement, Harman Pro president Blake Augsburger noted the success of the loudspeaker business unit and the opportunity to provide microphone and headphone customers with the same depth of innovation, marketing leadership and care. “Investing in proven success is the foundation for long-term growth,” he said.

Bryan Bradley commented: “We’re committed to increase our investment in this brand to grow its awareness and market share across the globe.

“Microphones with loudspeakers is a natural fit,” Bradley continued, referring to transducer technology, the link between the sectors. “I look forward to working with the team in Vienna and our growing team here in Northridge.”
