GERMANY: There was an emphatically positive mood to this year’s Prolight and Sound, which took place at Frankfurt Musikmesse last week.
Further to the preview contained in last week’s PSN-e (read here http://prosoundnewseurope.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1584&Itemid=1), ProLight+Sound 2010 also saw new product developments from Adamson, Crown, DiGiCo, Roland Systems Group, Soundcraft and many others. ADAM Audio unveiled the latest models to join the SX monitor series. The new units – the S5X-H, S5X-V and S6X – all incorporate the X-ART (extended frequency response) tweeter, replacing the ART (accelerating ribbon technology) tweeter. The new tweeter is said to show an efficiency of 96dB, a higher maximum sound pressure level and a frequency response up to 50kHz. Adamson Pro Audio announced the launch of the Eklipsa series of horizontal arrays. Available in 12-inch bi-amped and 15-inch bi-amped versions, the Eklipsa arrays feature Adamson’s Advanced Cone Architecture and its patented High Frequency Wave Shaping technology. In addition, the company added a twin 12-inch monitor, M212, to its M-Series family. Allen & Heath and Audinate announced that they are collaborating to introduce Dante networking modules for the iLive digital mixing series. Dante will be incorporated into Allen & Heath’s range of audio networking plug-in cards, which slot into the iDR MixRacks and allow iLive to interface with a variety of common audio interface and networking standards. On a related note, Link also publicised an agreement with Audinate that will see it implement Dante in its DGlink Stage Box system. Described as the first multi-protocol enabled modular digital snake system, DGlink is specifically designed for live applications that require the integration and distribution of analogue, AES-EBU and Ethernet-based protocols. Alcons Audio signalled its intention to develop further in the touring and larger installation markets with the introduction of the LR24 system. A complete package incorporating line array, line array bass, ground-stacked subs, multi-channel amplification and processing, the LR24 is designed to deliver the same SPL capability as equivalent products in the mid-size line array segment – but with 15db less distortion. Designed to work in conjunction with JBL VerTec, VRX and AE series loudspeakers, Crown’s VRack is a complete amplifier management rack system. The new launch features three built-in Crown I-Tech 12000HD amplifiers to provide a hassle-free plug-and-play solution. The modular design enables configurations to be scaled to satisfy a variety of sound system sizes, while the globally universal power distribution system can be set to comply with US and international power standards. The DWS800 digital wireless microphone system – new from dB Technologies – is said to enable the availability of more frequencies in a narrow band whilst ensuring maximum flexibility with its high-switching bandwidth. Automated set-ups can be assigned to country-specific frequency bands, yielding the potential to operate up to 200 channels in parallel. DiGiCo heralded a ‘red revolution’ with the latest addition to its SD console series, the SD9 (pictured). A compact console offer that includes a mixing surface, D-Rack digital stage interface and Cat5E digital multicore, with the additional facility to simultaneously record 56 channels direct to multitrack software or DAW, the SD9 is oriented towards touring bands, schools, conference centres, smaller theatres, HoWs and other restricted-budget applications. In a separate strand to its PL+S appearance, the company also announced plans to collaborate with Riedel Communications on the development and integration of new digital audio technologies. EAW announced the appointment of Ibbenbüren-based company TRIUS Vertrieb GmbH & Co KG as its exclusive distributor for Germany with immediate effect. TRIUS will work with EAW European sales director Sean Martin, EAW Application Support Group EMEA representative Moray McMillin and other key members of EAW’s team in Europe as it undertakes its new duties. Lab.gruppen unveiled the new flagship model for the PLM series. The PLM 20000Q integrates two full-featured modules of Lake Processing with four channels of power amplification, each rated at 5000W output. According to Lab.gruppen, this output capacity makes the PLM 20000Q “easily the most powerful four-channel amplifier solution on the market”. Line 6 signalled a move into wireless microphone and guitar technology with the introduction of the XD-V70 and XD-V70L digital wireless microphone systems into European territories. While the XD-V70 digital wireless system includes a handheld cardioid microphone transmitter, the XD-V70L features a beltpack transmitter and miniature condenser lavalier microphone. Both systems offer 12 channels, a 100-meter range and heavy-duty cast metal 1/2U rack receivers. MC2 Audio previewed its first four-channel Class D switch mode amplifier. Full details have yet to be issued for the latest addition to the E series, the E100, but it is expected to offer a specification of circa 3,200W per channel at 4 ohms or 2,500W per channel at 2 ohms. MicW launched 11 new products, ranging from handheld vocal mics to compact, desktop, shotgun and boundary mics. Specific items included additions to the E (entry-level), N (nickel-diaphragm) and G (gold-diaphragm) ranges, among them re-purposed versions of previously released mics in new physical formats for different applications. Neutrik showcased a new solution to cope with the challenges of the forthcoming spectrum changes. The new DIWA (digital data transmission without data compression) technology utilises the 5GHz frequency band, and the first product to employ the technology – the Xirium professional multi-channel wireless system – includes a four-channel basis unit, mobile send and receiving units. An extension unit allows the system to be extended to eight channels. QSC announced the introduction of the KW Series active loudspeakers. Building on the same platform as the ABS-moulded K Series, the KW Series features a second generation wooden enclosure and comprises four models: the KW122 (12-inch, 2-way multi-purpose loudspeaker), KW152 (15-inch, 2-way trapezoidal loudspeaker), KW153 (15-inch, 3-way trapezoidal loudspeaker) and KW181 (18-inch subwoofer). Roland Systems Group introduced the RSS S-0808, an eight-in/eight-out compact digital snake that supports multiple power options (including battery-power, embedded-powered over REAC and power over Ethernet). The system is said to be an ideal choice for location sound, festivals, stage boxes, remote broadcasting and other portable applications. Shure unveiled the Beta 27 large diaphragm supercardioid condenser microphone. Featuring a supercardioid polar pattern and flat frequency response, the Beta 27 is said to facilitate concise, accurate sound from acoustic, wind and electric instruments. In addition to showing the new addition to the Vi series of consoles, the Vi1 (read PSN-e’s recent story here http://prosoundnewseurope.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1573&Itemid=26), Soundcraft previewed the Si Compact and – like DiGiCo – announced a collaborative alliance with Riedel. Telefunken Elektroakustik added the AR-51 large diaphragm tube condenser microphone to its R-F-T line of tube mics. Designed for any recording studio – from major world class facilities to voiceover rooms and home project studios – the AR-51 includes a vintage New Old Stock tube that has been rigidly tested for noise and microphonics, as well as a globally-sourced power supply and capsule. Tannoy announced the new Tannoy Reveal series monitors. Designed to provide active reference monitoring technology for compact studio configurations, the new range features: the 501a active monitor matched with 60W integrated amplifier, 5-inch LF/MF driver and 1-inch soft dome tweeter; and the 601a, with a 6.5-inch LF/MF driver, 1-inch soft dome tweeter and total power output of 90W.
