The Conch Awards – the industry show celebrating excellence in sound for film and television – will not be running in 2013. The awards, originated and developed by UK Screen Association, had been licensed to the EMAP Group (subsequently renamed The Top Right Group) for a three-year period, pending a permanent transfer of ownership. However the Association has received notice that The Top Right Group will no longer be producing the event. The rights to the brand and event have reverted to UK Screen and the Association will be investigating other options. Sarah Mackey, CEO, UK Screen, said: “The Conch is a well-known and well-loved industry brand. Feedback on the 2012 show was very positive and we hope that The Conch will return in the future.” Last year’s Conch Awards took place on 19 September, having been rescheduled from 30 May after an overwhelming number of nominations had been received. This year, 19 September is the date that the Pro Sound Awards will be recognising and rewarding achievements in broadcasting and post-production with three awards; Broadcast Team of the Year, Broadcast Facility of the Year and TV Sound Event of the Year. PSNEurope is working through its own pile of award proposals as we speak! Early Bird tickets are still available, but only until today (Friday 5 July), for £30. www.conchawards.co.uk
