It was a big year for DiGiCo at Prolight + Sound this year. To start, the company celebrated its 10th year anniversary as DiGiCo (and 40 years since its original incarnation as Soundtracs). Pictured here celebrating (L-R) are Michael Biwer (director, Prolight+Sound), James Gordon (MD DiGiCo), Cordelia von Gymnich (vice president Messe Frankfurt) and David Webster (marketing director at DiGiCo), In celebration of DiGiCo’s 10 years in business, the company launched the new SD5 – a nod to the D5 released in its first year of business. The SD5 sits between the SD7 and SD10 and although it effectively replaces the D5, outstanding orders will still be fulfilled. “We’ve evolved a lot over the past decade, both in terms of the way we use the available technology and our understanding of what our customers really want and need,” said DiGiCo’s managing director, James Gordon. “SD5 is the culmination of that combined knowledge, so we want to make it the next generation D5 Live.” In addition to launching the SD5, DiGiCo announced it will “supercharge” all SD consoles free of charge (for a limited time) for existing customers. A new software suite will be made available, which will not only provide expanded channel counts and new effects but gives SD consoles super-charged new names: SD11i (for injection), SD9 Supercharged, SD8 OverDrive2, SD10 Nitrous, and the SD7 Mach 3. In a final piece of news, DiGiCo began fulfilling orders for the UB MADI – the company’s MADI to USB connector originally launched at NAMM 2012, which made its European debut at Prolight + Sound. www.digico.biz
