The courses are being held in conjunction with PSNE sister publication Installation Europe. Distinguished audio consultants and/or project engineers Stephen Jones, James Eade and Roland Hemming (pictured) are running the sessions, which will begin later this month and take place at the premises of White Light in Wimbledon, London. Taking place over the next six weeks, the new events are being staged in the wake of a successful audio training course held by AvitaS last September. Sponsored by Application Solutions Limited (ASL), Neutrik (UK), COMS and Sennheiser UK, the sessions begin on April 21 with a one-day seminar on the EN54 standard for fire alarm systems. The remaining events are: a one-day course on Voice Alarm systems based around BS5839-8 Part 8 (April 22); BS7827 Sound Systems for Sports Grounds (one-day, April 29); a half-day overview of the management of lighting, audio and AV projects (May 6, AM); a half-day overview of audio networking (May 6, PM); and a one-day course designed to give delegates a good understanding of temporary electrical systems, with the contents based around BS7909 (May 17). Full details of ticket prices, including information on early booking discounts, can be found at the AvitaS Global website (link below). Roland Hemming tells PSNE: “Following the Chinese proverb, these are ‘interesting times’ for the audio industry. After years of the standards remaining unchanged the industry is now having to get used to at least six British, European and International standards being updated or introduced between 2008 and 2011. Life safety systems are becoming more common and more regulated. These courses give manufacturers and installers the information they need to design and install compliant systems after this period of change.” Paddy Baker, editor of course partner IE, adds: “The reaction to recent articles in Installation Europe about EN54 parts 16 and 24, and an open-house session with Roland Hemming on our stand at ISE, have shown that there is a real appetite for practical guidance on voice alarm and related topics. These courses, together with the forthcoming Installation Europe Guide to Voice Alarm Systems, will help to satisfy this demand.” Webwww.avitas-global.com
