Zebedee Budworth’s ‘Astropets’ was the ultimate winner of the Audio-Technica Alternative Christmas Tune competition, which ran throughout the 2010 festive season.
In total, the six finalists posted on Audio-Technica’s YouTube channel attracted more than 10,000 views. Putting the final choice to the public yielded 1,500 votes and a victory for Zebedee Budworth’s banjo-laden ‘Astropets’.
As a result, Budworth receives £500 worth of Audio-Technica products of his choice.
Producer and MPG chairman Steve Levine, who selected the six finalists, commented: “I was really impressed with the standard and variety of the entries to the Alternative Christmas Tune competition. From the quirky to the carefully crafted, the tracks demonstrated again what a breadth of musical talent the UK has to offer. It made the shortlisting process very tough, but great fun. And Zebedee’s entry was a worthy winner – even though I never thought I’d hear banjos on a Christmas record.”
Audio-Technica senior UK marketing manager Harvey Roberts added: “We were extremely pleased both with the quality and quantity of entries and the number of views and votes that our Alternative Christmas Tune competition attracted. I’d like to congratulate Zebedee on his win, and on creating such a unique and engaging track and video – as Steve says, he is a deserving winner.”
