Andy Trott becomes president of AKG

The new approach will allow the Harman group companies "to capitalise on engineering innovations currently underway in both camps", said Trott, who acknowledges "many synergies" between Soundcraft/Studer and AKG projects.

The head of Soundcraft/Studer has also been made responsible for AKG in a move set to "capitalise on engineering innovations". Previous AKG president Stefan Gubi is to return to the telecoms industry at the end of June after five years in charge of Vienna-based AKG, which is part of the Harman Pro family alongside Soundcraft and Studer.

The new approach complements Harman's strategy of developing "centres of excellence" and, by bringing the microphone and headphone interests closer together with the mixer brands, the group will be able "to capitalise on engineering innovations currently underway in both camps", said Trott (pictured).

"Having a background as a digital engineer and a recording musician I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of leading another legendary name in the audio industry," continued Trott. "AKG has always been a brand I have revered and having now met with many of the team in Austria I can see many synergies with the new product development programmes we have been pursuing in Soundcraft Studer."

Organisationally, there will be "minimal change". Trott noted: "We will obviously look for efficiencies and make sensible changes, but AKG is running well, much to the credit of Stefan's work over the past four years. Nigel Beaumont, our v-p of operations, has been running our manufacturing operations across all three brands for almost a year now and the marketing teams, in line with all Harman Professional brands, work together on a daily basis so the businesses are comfortable working together."
