London-based audio engineering college Alchemea will be hosting a free Pro Tools 10 training event on Friday, January 27, in partnership with Avid and educational specialist Academia. The expo will include training seminars and product demos including the very first UK demo of Universal Audio’s new Apollo interface. Planned seminars will cover what’s new in Pro Tools 10, hardware updates, the Avid Learning Partner Program presented by Avid’s Tim Mynett, and mixing audio in Pro Tools. Alchemea director Neil Pickles said of the seminars: “Far too often it's just a bunch of dry facts with no context. I'm trying to put these features into a useful context in real world scenarios. One theme I'm very keen on is adding analogue colour: How can I get my mix sounding analogue using digital plug-ins? If I have outboard gear how easy is it to integrate it into my Pro Tools mix?” Marcel van Limbeek, recording engineer for Tori Amos, will also be on hand to demonstrate his parallel drum compression techniques using both plug-ins, and outboard hardware. Product demonstrations will include the latest Pro Tools hardware and the new HDX system, as well as products from Audient, KRK, Lexicon, Lynx, Focusrite, Novation, Presonus, Solid State Logic, and Universal Audio. Avid authorised reseller Academia will be available to discuss educational qualification for Avid products and pricing for institutions, academic staff, and students. “This is a unique event, a joint expo centered around Avid Pro Tools 10 as the modern studios’ core. Imagine you wanted to actually build a studio from scratch and were looking for an integrated solution for an educational or a professional studio build. Alchemea can train your lecturers or engineer/studio owner up to the highest level on Pro Tools 10 to get the best out of your equipment, which Academia can supply. We are also featuring companies that supply products ranging from hardware outboard to plugins that - together with Pro Tools - form the ecosystem you need to build a successful studio,” said Pickles.
