AES North of England presents an evening with Phill Brown

The AES Group North of England will host the former Island Record engineer and producer, whose career includes recordings by David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley & The Wailers and live recordings for Joni Mitchell and Pink Floyd.

The AES Group North of England will present ‘An Evening with Phill Brown’ on Tuesday, 19 November at the The Chairworks in Castleford. Doors open at 18:00 for a 18:30 start. The two-part event starts with an interview with Brown, a recording engineer/producer, whose career starting from the mid-1960s is still going strong today. From tape op at Olympic Studios working on sessions for Dusty Springfield, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and more he went on to work at Island Record’s London Studios engineering sessions including David Bowie, Sly Stone, Led Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Robert Palmer, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Steve Winwood and live recordings for Joni Mitchell and Pink Floyd. Going Freelance in 1976, Phill worked with artists such as Roxy Music, Go West, Talk Talk, Dido, Beth Gibbons, David Gilmour, Robert Plant, The Bombay Bicycle Club and Zero 7. The second half of the evening consists of a listening sessions and open discussion of Brown’s Recordings, as selected by himself. Tickets are required for entry to this event. These are free and are available now from EventBrite at  The AES Group North of England, based at The University of Leeds, School of Music meets on the third Tuesday of the months of October and November and February through to May each year. Leading the way for the expansion of the AES community outside of London in the UK, its 2013-2014 events season started in October with The Sound of Stonehenge by Dr Bruno Fazenda, Acoustics Research Centre, University of Salford.



New AES group for the North of England

Monitoring innovator Roger Quested will give the first presentation to the new AES North of England group, which was founded by recording engineer Kerry-Anne Kubisa and is based out of the School of Music at the University of Leeds.
