Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT) and David Kahne (Regina Spektor, Paul McCartney) are among the major names set to take part in the Platinum Panels at this autumn’s AES Convention.

The panels will be overseen by SonicScoop co-founders Janice Brown and David Weiss (both pictured on homepage).

“We are fortunate to have tapped into the insights and connectivity of these accomplished chroniclers of today’s audio industry,” said Convention chair Jim Anderson. “They are totally plugged-in to the creative community, and we are confident their journalistic acumen will bring an unconventional perspective to their panels. In a related announcement, legendary mastering engineer Bob Ludwig of Gateway Mastering & DVD is currently developing his popular Platinum Mastering Panel. News of that event will be announced soon.”

The ‘Creative Engineering – The Studio As an Instrument’ session will be co-moderated by Brown and engineer/producer/journalist Justin Colletti, with input from panellists Dave Fridmann, Peter Katis (The National, Interpol), Chris Shaw (Bob Dylan, Weezer) and Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Prodigy). Participants will discuss the creative recording and mixing techniques they’ve developed, and how they’ve led to great success.

Meanwhile, ‘The Producer’s Portfolio’ will be moderated by Weiss and feature Kahne, Gabe Roth (Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones) and others TBA. Regarded as a creative artistic force in their own right, each of these producers collaborates fully with their clients both in pre-production and the studio. Participants will explore the artistic sensibilities they’ve nurtured and how they’ve expressed themselves in their work.

The 131st Audio Engineering Convention will be held in New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center from 20-23 October.
