GERMANY: AKG, JBL, L-ACOUSTICS and many more feature in PSN-e's closing anthology of Prolight + Sound 09 highlights, writes David Davies. Allen & Heath, L-Acoustics and NEXO were among the other companies displaying new or recent products at Prolight + Sound 09, which took place in Frankfurt from April 1 to 4.
The attendance figures issued by show organisers at the conclusion of the event reinforced the impression of an overwhelmingly upbeat show. Collectively, the (MI-oriented and simultaneous) 30th Musikmesse and the 15th Prolight + Sound attracted 111,000 visitors from 125 countries - an increase of approximately 1,300 over last year. Specifically, PL + S received 33,631 visitors - 7.5% more than in 2008 - with Germany leading the way in visitor numbers, followed by The Netherlands, Austria, Italy and Belgium.
This selection of product highlights from this year's PL+S begins with Adamson Pro Audio, which drew attention to the new Point Series. Comprising five new models with EASE Data, the Point Series includes the Point 8 (pictured), Point 12 and Point 14 two-way enclosures, and companion subwoofers the Point 115 Sub and Point 215 Sub. A new 4x8 DSP, The Point Control, is also available for optimal speaker management.
"We are very excited about the release of the Point Series," director of marketing and sales Jesse Adamson tells PSN-e. "Our distributors have been after a line of Adamson speakers that caters to the installation market for some time. The response at Frankfurt was simply overwhelming. In addition to the five products that we unveiled at the show, we will introduce at least two more products in the Point line-up over the next 12 months."
AKG displayed its C 747 'pencil microphone', which has been redesigned in order to "better cope with specific installed sound issues". The resulting product, the C 747 V11, incorporates an integrated RFi shield to eliminate unwanted interference from mobile phones and wireless mics, while the frequency response has been fine-tuned to ensure a clear sound without changing the ambience of the C 747 sound. AKG also exhibited the redesigned C 3000 condenser microphone, which now sports a "new sleek and classy finish".
Further to PSN-e's earlier coverage of Allen & Heath at PL+S, the company also announced the introduction of Euroblock connector versions of its more popular models in order to add flexibility to its installation range. The iDR digital series and GR05 analogue zone mixer are now manufactured in two versions, the original model with the existing XLR connectors, and there is a new 'ST' model fitted with Euroblock connectors. The company also highlighted its new XB-14 broadcast console and three new audio interface plug-in cards for the iLive-T series.
Auralex Acoustics showed its new Home Design (HD) Series acoustical panels, which - among other products - includes SonoSuede HD, a fabric-covered absorption panel designed to reduce slap and flutter echoes, and SpeakerDude HD, which provides isolation for speakers by decoupling speakers from the surface on which they rest upon.
HK AUDIO announced special limited edition versions of its ConTour Array systems. Available through the company's international distribution partners, the special ConTour Array Road Package systems are described as "true plug-and-play, with heavy-duty flight cases for the mid/high units as well as protective covers and dollies for the subwoofers already included at a very attractive package price."

Sandrine Pignon, marketing coordinator for L-ACOUSTICS, tells PSN-e: "Prolight + Sound went well for us this year and our stand was extremely busy throughout. We were pleased to see that, despite the overall economic situation, our clients are confident about the future. They were pleased to share their current and forthcoming projects with us during the show."
M-Audio introduced the new Studiophile CX8 and CX5 studio monitors. The 8-inch and 5-inch CX series products are said to deliver well-balanced sound and superior detail in a wide range of environments. The CX5 is tailored towards smaller mixing rooms, home studios or workstation areas, while the CX8 is more suitable for mid-to-large size mixing and referencing environments.
