In its third major sporting event of 2014, audio equipment by Salzbrenner Stagetec Mediagroup is providing all audio feeds for the 2014 European Athletics Championship in Zurich. The German manufacturer and distributor previously lent its expertise to the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia in February, and FIFA World Cup in Brazil in June and July.
For Zurich 2014, longstanding Stagetec client tpc (technology and production center switzerland ag) is in charge of the technical implementation of clean feeds for all 47 athletics finals. For the distribution of the host signal, the International Broadcast Center will rely on a Stagetec NEXUS network consisting of a NEXUS STAR and five NEXUS base devices, while no fewer than seven OB trucks — five AURUS- and two CRESCENDO-based control rooms — will be used to capture the action inside the Letzigrund stadium.
tpc’s HD1, a large OB truck fitted with an AURUS console, is serving as main control room. tcp says the HD1 is "always the first choice [...] when it comes to covering major sporting events," and was also used for Stagetec's presence in Sochi.
A second AURUS control room and additional OB truck (with a CANTUS system) is stationed in Zurich city centre, where the walkers and marathon runners will be competing for gold.
The 2014 European Athletics Championships kicked off on 12 August and will end on Sunday, the 17th. This year's championships mark the first time Switzerland has hosted the competition since 1954.
