What is it?A 4-channel analogue audio monitor providing self-powered, stereo audio monitoring, suitable for use with video tape recorders. DetailsThe AMP1A-VTR2 offers individual metering, monitoring and summing of four channels from one of two input groups. It features four LED level meters showing simultaneous VU and PPM readings for accurate level metering of all four input sources from the selected input group. The design incorporates high-performance transducers driven by power amplifiers: one amplifier/driver combination handles mid-range and high-frequency information, while the second handles summed low-frequency information below the 500Hz crossover point. According to Wohler, the unit provides “optimally focused” sound for operators in an ultra-nearfield (1ft to 3ft) working environment and offers performance comparable to that of many separate monitor pairs. This provides for higher SPLs while reducing overall ambient sound and adjacent bay crosstalk. The unit’s extended HF response is designed to reveal potential problems of audio ‘whine’ or hiss. Electronic (rather than acoustic) cancellation of bass frequencies provides positive audible detection of out-of-phase (reversed polarity) audio feeds. Connection to the headphone jack automatically mutes the speakers on the front panel which also features an “innovative” LED display of phase/polarity relationships. Output limiter circuits are incorporated to protect the speakers while extensive magnetic shielding allows placement immediately adjacent to video monitors without the problem of colour impurities. The AMP1A-VTR2 is said to be ideally suited for use in VTR bays, mobile production vehicles, teleconferencing installations, multimedia systems, satellite link and cable TV facilities – plus radio studios.
