UK: Staff from Bang Post Production and The Pinewood Studios Group feature among the nominees, writes David Davies. Developed to celebrate "the very best of British audio talent", the awards event will this year take place on September 22 at the new venue of King's Place, London.

The shortlist was compiled by event parent organisation UK Screen Association from votes cast over the last month by those working in audio post-production and related areas of the media.

While there isn't space to detail the full shortlist here (that can be accessed via the link below), nominees include Paul McFadden from Bang Post Production (TV Sound Person of the Year), Paul Cotterell from LipSync (TV Dubbling Mixer of the Year), Quantum of Solace (Film Soundtrack of the Year Over _10m), Red Riding 1980 - Lip Sync (Audio on TV Drama), Chris Munro (Production Sound Mixer of the Year), Glenn Freemantle (Film Sound Editor) and Ian Tapp from The Pinewood Studios Group (Film Re-Recording Mixer). Individual category sponsors include SADiE, Avid, Munro Acoustics and Euphonix.

The shortlist for Commercial Facility, Film Facility, TV Facility and Newcomer will be revealed following the judging day this September.

Gaynor Davenport (pictured), chief executive of UK Screen Association, tells PSN-e: "With stiff competition amongst the nominees and an overwhelming response from voters this year, it is now clear just how much (if there was any doubt before) the Conch actually means to people. This is a great testament to the British sound industry and a great accolade for the Conch 2009. In a year that has already been a tremendous success for British audio talent we hope the Conch will be the crowning glory!"

Anyone wishing to purchase tickets to the award ceremony on September 22 can do so by visiting the UK Screen Association website, where full sponsor information is also available.
