BBC Studios and Post Production (S&PP) is providing full studio facilities, post-production services and technical support from Elstree Studios for the 12th series of the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

During its 13-week run, the celebrity dancing competition's Saturday night live performances and Sunday nights results show will come from the 15,825sqft George Lucas Stage 2 at Elstree Studios in Hertsfordshire. To capture the orchestra and audience reaction, BBC S&PP provides talkback services, six portable stage boxes equipped with 40 mic inputs and 16 line outputs, and nearly 50 radio mics. At the Elstree facility, a bespoke editing complex features 10 Avid Symphony suites to meet the programme's fast-turnaround post-production requirements.

John O’Callaghan, head of studios and post-production services at BBC Studios and Post Production, comments: “We are delighted to welcome Strictly back to Elstree for a second time, and to be supporting the nation’s favourite dancing show for the 10th year running. As you’d expect from the team behind the shiniest floor in showbiz, the production requirements get bolder and more ambitious every year, but our fantastic production facilities and technical crew are up for the challenge!”

Contestants on Strictly Come Dancing 2014, now in its 10th year, include pop star Pixie Lott, EastEnders actor Jake Wood, international rugby player Thom Evans and MasterChef critic Gregg Wallace.

BBC S&PP posted a £3 million (€3.8m) loss in its 2013/14 annual report, released in July. The report described 2013–14 as “a transformational year for S&PP”, pointing to its moving from its historic home at Television Centre whilst it is closed for redevelopment and successfully establishing operations at new core locations – Elstree Studios and South Ruislip. BBC Studios and Post Production will also return to Television Centre in 2017.

BBC S&PP fits galleries for Elstree studios

BBC Studios and Post Production (BBC S&PP) has installed technical galleries for studio spaces at Elstree Film Studios, including the George Lucas Stages, which now feature a Studer Vita 8 for mixing and an OnAir 3000 handling studio routing.
