What is it?A 3-way passive monitor suitable for broadcast, mastering and postproduction applications in either stereo or surround environments (when partnered with its dedicated centre channel and SB100 sub-bass system). DetailsThe IB1S is an ATL (Advanced Transmission Line) design with two sections incorporating wide-dispersion mid- and high-frequency drivers and a 10” carbon fibre woofer with Nomex flat piston. The latter is a patented design said to increase dynamic handling and eliminate distortion that may occur due to cone break up. The 27mm twin chamber soft-dome HF unit uses high-performance, ferro-fluid cooling technology in conjunction with a 75mm soft-dome mid-range driver which is housed in isolated chamber. Together, the drivers offer a frequency response which is substantially flat across a 25Hz – 25kHz range and delivers a maximum SPL of 116dB. Other variants on the basic monitor include the magnetically-shielding IB1S-M model and a version with a matching low-profile centre channel – the IB1SM-C. A further active option – the IB1S-A – is also available incorporating the Bryston PowerPac 120. Where extended low-frequency response is required, there’s a matching SB100 subwoofer to complete a surround system while a ‘film filter’ option adds HF roll-off at 1.5dB, 3dB and a flat setting. Recommended power amplifier output is up to 500W. Enclosure measurements are 29.1”(H) x 13.0” (W) x 18.3” (D) and 33” custom speaker stands are available for optimising performance.
