Video Europe is building a new HD/5/1 OB truck with "industry standard" Calrec Omega console for light entertainment, music and sports projects.
The UK-based hire company intends the new OB3, and an accompanying video tender, to be a 'cross-hire' vehicle for rental by other outside broadcast companies that need extra capacity on productions.
The 12 metre long, expanding sides unit, which can house 16 cameras, is being built and integrated by C2S Systems. Jonathan Lyth, systems manager at C2S, comments that a major challenge was to get "a high level of equipment in a small double-expanding OB footprint whilst providing operational comfort".
The audio section is centred round a 56-fader Calrec Omega console with Bluefin processing. This is 5.1 capable and will work in conjunction with a Genelec surround sound monitoring system, including 8020Bs and a sub woofer.
Terry Millard, business development director of Video Europe, explains that the Omega was selected because it is an "industry standard" used in "most trucks of a substantial number of cameras".
He adds that it will be "familiar to most operators". A 64-port Telex communications matrix is also part of the installation. Routing is based on a Miranda hybrid system with MADI capability. Video Europe hopes OB3 will be available for hire by May this year.
