What is it?A two-way, powered nearfield monitor designed for tracking, mixing and mastering in broadcast, recording and post-production studios. DetailsThe KH120 features Neumann’s Mathematically Modelled Dispersion waveguide (MMD), flexible acoustical controls, analogue Class-AB amplifiers and bass, low-mid and treble acoustical controls. It incorporates a 5.25” long-throw LF frequency driver and a 1” titanium, fabric-dome HF tweeter in a magnetically-shielded aluminium enclosure said to minimise resonances and improve heat dissipation. Large front panel ports are included to reduce bass compression and are designed to make the enclosures easier to mount in tight spaces such as OB vans. The elliptical MMD waveguide delivers smoother off-axis response and wide horizontal dispersion said to offer freedom of movement across the mixing console while the narrow vertical dispersion reduces reflections off the mixing console. The one-piece front panel also reduces diffraction and smooths the speaker’s overall frequency response which is quoted at 52Hz – 21kHz (+/- 3dB). The built-in amplifier delivers 50W RMS to both the woofer and tweeter units and is said to combine high headroom with improved transient response. Separate peak limiters for each driver are included together with thermal protection circuitry. The enclosure measures 277mm x 182mm x 220mm and incorporates a robust metal grille. It can be used in conjunction with a subwoofer such as the Neumann KH 810 to extend low-frequency response down to 18Hz.
