The new management of London post-production house LipSync is planning to replace the mixing console in its TV drama dubbing theatre and increase the mix capacity for feature film work next year, writes Kevin Hilton.

Managing director Peter Hampden and finance director Norman Merry bought out the shareholding of Jon Diamond, a co-founder of the LipSync Group, at the beginning of November. Diamond has moved on to "pursue his interests in production" but will act as an advisor to the company in his new role as non-executive director.

Hampden, who formed LipSync with Diamond in 1986, comments, "Jon has been inspirational over the past 24-years and we thank him for all his efforts in bringing LipSync to where it is today. As we open a new chapter in the company's history we are in a terrific position to move onwards and upwards in both post and production."

Prior to the management buy-out substantial investment was made in LipSync's audio department. New Pro Tools systems were added and existing workstations updated, while the I/O capacity of the AMS Neve DFC consoles in the two feature film dubbing rooms was doubled.

Hampden says the AMS Libra desk in the facility's TV drama mix theatre will be replaced during 2011, although no decision has been made yet as to what will be installed in its place. "We are also actively looking to increase our feature film mixing capacity to cope with the volume of work," he adds.

Among forthcoming broadcast productions that have been posted at LipSync are Zen, an adaptation of Michael Dibdin's novels about Italian detective Aurelio Zen, Jane Eyre, Coriolanus and Toast, based on cookery writer Nigel Slater's autobiography. All are for the BBC and the last three will also have theatrical releases.

"LipSync has a number of projects in post-production to look forward to next year, whcih, taken together, give us our busiest order book for many years," comments Hampden. "We believe this has come about as a result of our growing reputation with producers, directors and financiers to deliver high quality, on time and on budget."
