Audio highlights at BVE 2012

The 2012 BVE (Broadcast Video Expo) show takes places at Earls Court in London from 14th to 16th February and audio will have a high profile, both on the exhibition floor and in the seminar sessions, writes Kevin Hilton.

The 2012 BVE (Broadcast Video Expo) show takes places at Earls Court in London from 14th to 16th February and audio will have a high profile, both on the exhibition floor and in the seminar sessions, writes Kevin Hilton. Among the debuts are new developments for Trilogy Communications' Gemini IP intercom, which are designed to meet requirements from users in both the broadcast and other professional media markets. In addition Trilogy will show Watchdog, a signal detection and change-over unit for the Mentor XL SPG/TSG master reference generator. BCD Audio has been involved in some major broadcast centre installations of late, including MediaCityUK and Sky's Harlequin 1, and produced new products on the back of this. At BVE the company will have a new audio monitor unit, a presenter sound monitoring device and a digital audio mixer that supports HD video. First UK showings include the NTP Technology Penta 725 IP audio router and the AETA 4Minx location mixer and recorder (pictured). This will be shown on the Aspen Media stand and features 2, 4, 6 or 8 track recording on to removable SD/SDHC cards, with a mixing section that accommodates mono, stereo or MS feeds and can be used as a stand-alone unit. HHB will have a range of new portable recorders, including the two-channel Olympus LS-100 and Roland's six-channel R-26, along with the Studer OnAir 1500 and Yamaha 01V96i consoles. Audio seminars include director/cameraman Phil Coates talking about Recording Sound in Extreme Locations (see feature), From Pictures to Sound - the new sonic potential for radio by Jo Tyler of Bournemouth University and Paul Grant, chief engineer of Glensound Electronics, outlining the HD Voice audio broadcast format for mobile phones. www.bvexpo.com

BVE London spawns Manchester show

The organisers of Broadcast Video Expo (BVE) announced a new spin-off show in Manchester even before last week's exhibition in London had ended, writes Kevin Hilton. BVE North will run in parallel with the established Media Festival at the Manchester Central venue from 16th to 17th November.

Looking ahead to BVE North 2012

Only a few weeks away, Broadcast Video Expo North will take place in Manchester on 13-14 November. Among the 33 new brands at this year’s show are German pro-audio companies DirectOut, RTW and Jünger Audio.
