TV2 takes first Gemini intercom26 January 2011
Hungarian commercial broadcaster TV2 has become the first organisation to order Trilogy Communications‘ second-generation IP-based intercom product, the Gemini, writes Kevin Hilton.
The system will be part of a distributed network linking two buildings at TV2’s broadcast centre in Budapest.
Gemini was launched last year and continues Trilogy’s work with internet protocol technology for broadcast communications, which began in the early 2000s with the Mercury system. The new product is being supplied to TV2 by Trilogy’s Hungarian distributor, Somos Broadcast Media ZRT.
TV2 went on air in 1997 and is part of the ProSiebenSat.1 Media group. It transmits news and locally produced entertainment programmes alongside US imports, including American Idol and Desperate Housewives.
The new intercom installation will be made up of five matrices connected over a bi-directional fibre ring. TV2 has ordered a selection of control panels, with the option to expand the number of operator interfaces in the future. Among the units being supplied for this installation are lever key and LCD push buttons. There is also the option for connecting over a LAN (local area network) or WAN (wide area network).
Commenting on the contact, Laszlo Rozganyi, technical director of Somos Broadcast Media, says, "Gemini meets the needs of many of our customers, with comprehensive functionality and ease of use setting it apart. We are pleased to see Trilogy building on the success we have seen over recent years with both the Commander and Orator intercoms and expect TV2 to be just the first in a long line of broadcasters who wish to reap the benefits of a scalable and resolute IP platform."
