The Conch Sound Awards 2008: register your nominations now

test 1 April 2008

UK: The nomination process for The Conch Sound Awards 2008, organised by the UK Screen Association in association with Pinewood Studios, is now underway. Scheduled to take place at London’s Mayfair Hotel on September 25th, The Conch Awards recognise “the outstanding contribution made by UK facilities, staff and projects to the art of audio post-production in films, TV and commercials,” writes David Davies.

The post-production industry is invited to nominate now – and until May 30th – via the link below. Companies can nominate themselves and their colleagues/peers, and can also check online for an updated list of nominations. Following the nomination process and a voting stage, the winners will be finalised by an independent judging panel.

“What we have tried to do is make very clear distinctions between the categories for film and TV this year,” UK Screen Association chair Gaynor Davenport (pictured) tells PSN-e. “We felt that it had not always been clear which kind of projects could be entered into which kind of categories, so we wanted to create a more obvious separation. For example, the Facility of the Year Award has been split into separate awards for film, TV and commercial.”

The online nomination phase is also new for 2008. “We want to encourage as many people as possible to get involved with that,” confirms Davenport.

Categories for the 2008 event are TV Dubbing Mixer of the Year, Film Re-Recording Mixer of the Year, Film Facility of the Year, TV Facility of the Year, Commercial Facility of the Year, Audio on TV Entertainment, Music Production, Audio Media Unsung Hero Award, Film Soundtrack of the Year (separate awards for under _10 million and over _10 million), Audio on TV/Film Documentary, UK’s Most Promising Newcomer (as won last year by Kelly-Marie Angell – see Pro Sound News Europe February edition – or download here), Audio on TV Drama, UK Screen Fellowship Award, Production Sound Mixer of the Year, Film Sound Editor of the Year and TV Sound Editor of the Year.

Individual category sponsors include Euphonix, Prism Sound, Scrub, White Mark, Dolby and the UK Film Council.
