Tannoy collaborates with Red Square Audio

UK: The two companies have developed a live/touring version of Tannoy’s VQ Series loudspeaker product, writes David Davies. The result, VQ LIVE, will be distributed on an exclusive basis in the UK and Eire by Red Square Audio. An official launch event is to take place at Pinewood Studios on January 27th, with the product expected to market around Easter.

Benefits claimed for VQ LIVE include sonic superiority, lower costs and full VNET implementation, which allows system commissioning and ongoing venue network control, incorporating real-time diagnostics.

“It was perfect timing,” Tannoy’s area sales manager, Tim Gray, tells PSN-e. “I go back a long way with Paul (Nicholson, Red Square Audio founder). He had just finished with L-Acoustics and could see massive potential for this product.”

Regarding the benefits of the collaboration for Tannoy, Gray notes that the loudspeaker company “has got an incredible amount of heritage, but this is the first time that we have ever gone into the large format touring sound industry. Paul is extremely well-known there and working with him probably enables us to shortcut about four or five years.”

Nicholson, pictured here with Gray, commented: “As a mix engineer, company owner and distributor, VQ LIVE ticks all the right boxes. I haven’t come across a package that performs simultaneously on all these levels before. I’m not just talking about small increments; VQ LIVE is quite literally streets ahead of the competition. Now, having turned a stunning installation product into a road-ready system, I’m certain that VQ LIVE will fast become an industry icon.”

Established in October 2008 as a sister company to MIDAS ProSound, Red Square Audio was recently appointed by Innovason to serve as its exclusive distribution partner for the UK and Eire. For PSN-e’s coverage of this story, click here.
