Studer Vista 93 August 2010
What is it?A digital mixing console for broadcast and live production available in a choice of standard frame sizes, from 32 to 72 faders and configurable to suit individual needs using input and output cards, ISOs, MADI cards etc. DetailsBuilding on Vista 8 DSP technology, Vista 9 is said to take the operator experience to a higher level through the introduction of several new features. The Vistonics interface has been upgraded using an innovative wide-screen TFT metering design offering precision feedback of signal status. A large bargraph meter is included for every channel from mono to 7.1 with indication of overload level in dBs. Stereo channel meters include a correlation display and the control bay features user pages with up to 40 assignable channel meters on one screen.
Faderglow technology provides the operator with an instant overview of control status by illuminating each fader in one of eight assignable colours. According to Studer, this makes it easier to see where channel groups are, increasing reaction time and reducing stress in high-pressure situations. The Vistonics interface allows buttons and rotary controls to be placed in touch screens, overcoming the difficulty of controls being positioned away from the source of visual feedback. Vista 9 provides a ‘where you look is where you control’ interface, further enhanced by audio functions always being associated with the same colour and parameters always associated with the same icon displaying values graphically.
The Vista 9’s channel bus structure can be built on a session-by-session basis to be ready for any kind of production. The contribution function available on all channel strips allows the surface to be used without limitations and a dedicated panel in the Control Bay provides access to all input channel settings. An alternative PFL bus delivers input signal control for dual operators. Studer’s Virtual Surround Panning (VSP II) technology is said to make it easy for operators to create a realistic surround sound field modelled around a few simple parameters. In addition, the design features an upmix panner in every stereo channel, automatic downmixing and 5.1 input channels with "intuitive" input balancing. Up to 7.1 surround monitoring outputs for a main and an alternative speaker group are directly integrated into the console and ReLink networking provides access to the inputs and outputs of other consoles.
