SSL optimises ADR at IBC6 September 2012
Audio console manufacturer Solid State Logic (SSL) will unveil its new automatic dialogue replacement (ADR) workflow solution, ScreenSound ADR, at IBC2012. According to the company, the system is “the world’s first end-to-end solution designed to deliver faster and more efficient ADR workflow.” As previously reported in PNSEurope’s March feature, ADR is a time and labour intensive procedure, with many pro-audio companies looking to streamline the process. SSL’s head of marketing, Dan Duffell, is pictured here with the new system at IBC.
SSL’s ScreenSound ADR combines both hardware and software into one system. Software applications provide dialogue spotting, session preparation, session control and management and audio recording. Hardware includes the host computer, I/O and Nucleus hardware control surface. The session preparation stage of the process is handled by SpotShot, a take logging, dialogue spotting and session preparation tool. SpotShot features an integrated HD capable video player with full script and annotation text overlay. Imported scripts are automatically turned into take lists, which can be filtered to show appearances by individual cast members or groups and to calculate word/line count. Dialogue replacement is managed via SpotFire, which combines a ‘rehearse – record – review’ transport control panel with a customizable Take List. SpotFire relies on SSL’s Soundscape DAW as the platform for recording, editing and mixing with all track arming, transport and recording functions controlled entirely by SpotFire’s dedicated ADR interface. In addition, the system can both import and export sessions in native .ptf Pro Tools format. www.solidstatelogic.com
