SSL issues update on massive ABC contract

test 22 September 2009

UK/AUSTRALIA: SSL distributor Amber Technology has now delivered and commissioned eleven consoles for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), writes David Davies. The provision of the desks to studios and OB facilities in Australia is part of a long-term SSL music production console supply contract between Amber Technology and ABC that runs until 2013.

To date, Amber has supplied and installed two C100 HD consoles, eight C200 HD systems and one Duality system. The most recent delivery was a 24-fader C100 HD console, which is now in use at ABC’s facility within the Sydney House Opera precinct.

Meanwhile, ABC’s SSL C200 HD-equipped Melbourne- and Adelaide-based OB trucks were deployed at the Sound Relief concert in March. Held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the show – which featured acts including Jet and Kings of Leon – benefited those affected by Victoria’s recent, devastating bushfires.

Dan Duffel, head of marketing at SSL, tells PSN-e: "This is a very significant contract with one of the world’s most important broadcasters. This latest deployment is a testament to both the versatility of our consoles and the valued expertise of Amber Technology, and demonstrates that SSL is capable of meeting the demanding requirements of large-scale live audio broadcasting and recording within a highly competitive marketplace."
