Sports Broadcast Europe conference debuts

test 25 November 2008

UK: A one-day conference from the team behind PSNE sister title TVBEurope will take place next month, writes David Davies. The inaugural Sports Broadcast Europe conference will take place at London’s Hotel Russell on December 9, and incorporate presentations from speakers including Peter Angell (Host Broadcast Services) and Kevin Moorhouse (Gearhouse).

Delivering the keynote address will be Peter Angell, who is director of the Production and Programming division of Host Broadcast Services (HBS). Owned by Infront Sports & Media, HBS has provided multilateral coverage and unilateral production, transmission and commentary facilities for world broadcasters at events including the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Other presentations will include Gearhouse’s Kevin Moorhouse on – among other subjects – the complexities of transmitting 5.1 audio; Siemens IT Solutions and Services’ principal consultant, Chris Lawrence, on the BBC’s HD broadcast of Euro 2008; and International Sportsworld Communications’ CEO, Simon Long, on the broadcast of the FIA World Rally Championship. There will also be a special panel session with the topic ‘Staying ahead of the game: introducing new techniques and technologies to keep viewers watching.’

“This is our first sports event, and we hope you will support it,” says TVBEurope editor Fergal Ringrose. “We have chosen early December as an opportunity for sports TV people to get together for one day (when they’re not out on the road) to talk about the technology issues they face and how the business is changing.”
