Soundcraft Si Compact

Nigel Lord 5 October 2010

What is it?A compact range of digital consoles designed for live sound applications. DetailsWith full DSP functionality built-in to a small-footprint chassis, the Si Compact provides up to 40 inputs to mix in 3 frame sizes – 16, 24 or 32 mic/line inputs plus four stereo returns – the smallest of which is also rack-mountable. 14 mono aux busses are available together with four FX busses, four matrix busses, LRC mix busses, four stereo effects processors, four mute groups and four assignable insert send/returns (24 and 32 models).
The design offers a full encoder set for all functions on a channel – from input gain through EQ and dynamics to bus controls. With dedicated controls and no layering of functions, operation is said to be fast and simple, with Lexicon processors on dedicated FX busses (in addition to the main mixes) and BSS graphic EQ for every bus. The Si Compact is designed around EMMA Lite – the same DSP platform used in the larger Si Series and incorporating the dedicated FX busses, 16 line outputs plus AES, an optional card slot for MADI or other connectivity and a colour touchscreen interface.
Other features include TOTEM – a one-touch ‘easy mix’ feature which uses a single button to perform a range of mixing functions – and Global Mode with its row of rotary controls above each fader, assignable for Gain, Pan or HPF. The motorised faders also incorporate Soundcraft’s FaderGlow technology operating on two layers, illuminating the fader slots with different colours according to function.
