Sonifex mixers for hospital radio studio

Royal Bournemouth Hospital-based Hospital Radio Bedside (HRB) broadcasts 24 hours per day to five local hospitals. Asked to refurbish both of the station’s on-air studios, HRB engineer Simon Davies elected to replace the existing mixers with Sonifex S2 split mixers, as well as specifying a variety of other items, including Sonifex SignalLED studio signs and a Sonifex RB-SS10 10-way stereo analogue source selector/mixer to interface with their play-out system to enable automated news. Wishing to replace the studios’ main worksurface and pods with a low profile mixer, Davies selected S2s without meterbridges. A custom furniture design from Sonifex supplier Westcountry Broadcast incorporates a mahogany finish suite with matching mahogany meterbridge pods. “We chose the Sonifex S2 because of the clean and simple layout,” said Davies. “When you have to train nearly 50 volunteers on how to use the studios, you have to make it as easy as possible, but at the same time have enough flexibility in the desk for more advanced operation.” Westcountry Broadcast MD Nick Beer noted that Davies had “very precise ideas” about the end-product and said that he asked the company to supply the S2 with “everything he needed to achieve the desired end-result”. He added: “We enjoyed producing a design for the station in what is an unusual style, and Simon’s finished installation looks absolutely great.” Webwww.sonifex.co.uk
