The Shetland Islands Broadcasting Company (SIBC), an independent radio station broadcasting in the Scottish archipelago, has purchased two Sonifex S2 broadcast mixers to replace its existing Alice Air2000s.

SIBC has over the last three years been replacing all its equipment, including the transmitter, office, UPS, studios and play-out system.

The new desks needed to be similar to the Air2000 (for familiarity for staff) and the right size to fit in same spaces as the old desks with minimal carpentry and rewiring. The S2s, along with two Sonifex distribution amplifiers (pictured), were installed by station co-owner Ian Anderson in March, and went on-air in May.

The S2 radio broadcast mixer is a small-format, modular digital I/O analogue mixer which Sonifex says offers “digital audio quality with analogue reliability”. It has both digital and analogue inputs and outputs.
