Shure launches new app and QLX-D wireless system

Shure used the 2014 KOBA tradeshow in Seoul, South Korea, to announce the ShurePlus Channels, an iOS based mobile application that enables real-time remote monitoring and controlling of several Shure wireless systems.

The application relays critical channel information including RF signal strength, audio levels, and remaining battery life, and allows remote adjustment of frequency assignments, audio gain, muting, and more. ShurePlus Channels will be supported on Apple mobile devices running iOS7.

This basic version to monitor the systems is free. Through additional in-app purchases, users can further unlock the ability to remotely control their Shure wireless system and make changes to channel parameters. For a small one-time fee per wireless product line, crucial receiver and transmitter settings—such as frequency assignment, audio input/output levels, channel and device naming, and menu locking—can be adjusted from an iPad, iPhone, or iPod.

Chad Reid, user interface design manager, global product management, at Shure, says: “ShurePlus Channels was designed to meet the demands of today’s audio professionals.”

“The ability to freely roam a performance space and confidently monitor and operate their wireless gear provides invaluable flexibility. It works as a great complement to our powerful Wireless Workbench 6 application, but also just as well as a stand-alone solution for users of less complex systems and products, like the new QLX-D Digital Wireless Microphone System.”

The company also launched a new wireless system, the QLX-D. Erik Vaveris, wireless category director at Shure, says: “This system packs in a lot of sophistication and delivers incredible wireless audio performance. It has outstanding spectrum efficiency and frequency bands covering up to 72 MHz, allowing QLX-D users to operate more channels on-air than with any other wireless system in its class. QLX-D uses the same technology as our high end digital wireless systems in a more affordable package with a streamlined feature set.”
