Shure: Royal Academies and Fallen Empires

Shure Distribution UK (SDUK) will be providing the London-based Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) with equipment for the school’s live and studio productions, as well as its theatrical sound design and location recording courses.
The equipment includes Shure shotgun, dynamic and wireless microphone systems, and Sound Devices recorders for field use. In addition, Shure applications engineers will help create and deliver educational content for students on RADA’s Specialist Sound and Technical Theatre and Stage Management (TTSM) courses, including hands-on training on wireless microphone systems and RF spectrum management.
“Students are the future lifeblood of the audio and live production industries worldwide, and we are privileged to have the opportunity to work closely with an organisation of RADA’s reputation," said Peter James (pictured, left), managing director at SDUK. "This partnership gives RADA students the opportunity to train with some of the world’s finest microphone technology and location sound equipment while also benefiting from Shure’s technical expertise and knowledge.”
Offering a different type of ‘educational’ opportunity, Shure Europe is hosting a remix competition with UK rock band Snow Patrol, running from the beginning of October to 14 December 2012. Snow Patrol have sold over 12 million albums to date, and have been Shure users for years both on stage and in the studio.
For the competition, the band is making the isolated music and vocal tracks from their most recent album, Fallen Empires, publicly available. Snow Patrol have said that they are simply hoping that entrants will "create something new and original" using the mix stems, and that they will not favour any particular style or genre. Shure Europe will put together a shortlist of the best remixes, which will then be forwarded to Snow Patrol. The winners will receive prizes of Shure equipment worth up to €1,500.
