Sennheiser UK named as new Powersoft distributor

test 24 July 2007

UK: As PSN-e was about to go to virtual press, it was confirmed that Sennheiser UK had become the sole UK distributor of Italian pro audio amplifier manufacturer Powersoft. The Florence-based company – established in 1995 – is one of Europe’s leading rack-mountable digital amplifier manufacturers, reports David Davies.

For Sennheiser UK, the addition of Powersoft swells a distribution portfolio that includes Neumann, Rane, D.A.S. Audio and Klein & Hummel, and is doubtless a welcome development after the end of its agreement with Lab.gruppen – now distributed by Audioforce – in February.

“We’re delighted to add Powersoft to our portfolio of brands,” commented Sennheiser UK’s general manager, Philip Massey (pictured left with Powersoft president Carlo Lastrucci). “Having spoken to many end-users over the past few months, Powersoft’s reputation for versatility, sonic excellence and reliability is well-deserved. This is an important partnership for us and we’re very much looking forward to increasing the brand’s profile over the coming years. Naturally, this is a great time for live music in the UK, but we’re also assessing the potential for the brand in the Middle East.”

Powersoft’s commercial director, Luciano Ciappi, added: “We are extremely proud to have signed this agreement. We think that Sennheiser UK can help us demonstrate the superiority of our technology in the competitive UK. We immediately had [a] very good feeling about the Sennheiser team and this is why the agreement was signed quickly. Both companies are aware about the huge potential Powersoft has in the UK.”

The Italian brand was previously distributed in the UK by beyerdynamic, whose addition of Dynacord to its portfolio last year prompted some questions about possible overlap with both Powersoft products and those of another brand in its portfolio, Renkus-Heinz (concerns that were firmly rejected by beyerdynamic UK managing director John Midgely – see PSNE August 2006).

Starting with the original DIGAM series, Powersoft’s product range has evolved over time to encompass solutions for cinemas, public address systems, touring acts, permanent installations and portable sound requirements. Particularly notable among the product lines is the K Series, which can be easily upgraded through Powersoft’s Step-Up Card system as a venue’s requirements grow. The Power Control System, meanwhile, enables the construction of a network of amplifiers, allowing the user to execute real-time control and monitoring of the system through a PC.
