Rycote sponsoring Polar and Gobi challengers

UK: Microphone windshield specialist Rycote is sponsoring individuals set to take part in two very contrasting events next year – the Polar Challenge and the Gobi Challenge. Both events are set to push competitors to their mental, physical and emotional limits while simultaneously helping to raise money for worthwhile causes, reports PSN-e.

Polar Challenger Barney Franklin, based in Rycote’s home country of Gloucestershire, has already commenced endurance training ahead of the 350-mile ski across the Arctic next April. As part of a team of three, he will withstand temperatures between -20 and -35°C and face very real threats from the region’s wildlife in the process of raising funds for St. Roses, a school for special needs located in Stroud.

Rycote is also sponsoring the participation of sales director Simon Davies, his son Ryan and fitness trainer Giles Heeks in next July’s week-long Gobi Challenge. The challenge involves traversing imposing dunes and negotiating an ice gorge hidden deep within a mountain range over a 140-mile desert course.

“We have all encouraged the boys with their training, and some of us have joined in with the added bonus of getting fitter ourselves,” said Rycote MD Vivienne Dyer. “These challenges will give the competitors the opportunity to push themselves to achieve their personal best, and we should all subscribe to that.

“Both the events raise funds for great charities and Rycote is proud to be able to help support the participants. We wish them all the very best in their training and in the challenges.”
