Riedel celebrating MediorNet success2 June 2009
GERMANY: Riedel Communications debuted the new signal transport solution at the NAB exhibition in April, reports David Davies. The new system combines signal transport, routing and signal processing, and conversion into one integrated real-time network. It is designed for both simple point-to-point connections and specification in a network that includes signal routing.
MediorNet includes broadcast-quality signal processing and conversion such as embedding, de-embedding, Up/Down/Cross-Scaling and Multi-viewing on board. These features are software-based so they can be expanded easily in the future without any changes to the hardware.
Described as "the first step into an innovative new age of fiber-based real-time signal transport solutions for multi-channel HD video, audio and data," MediorNet was displayed for the first time at NAB. Possessing an open network technology – supporting ring, start, daisy-chain or any combination – MediorNet can transport up to 153 GBit/s on a single fiber link, with each mainframe providing routing capacity for 32×32 720p/1080i signals, 184×184 SD-SDI signals, 27,000×27,000 AES signals or any combination of these.
Speaking to PSN-e, Riedel’s director marketing & communications, Andreas Hilmer, says that that the response to MediorNet to date has exceeded the company’s expectations.
"We sold the first multi-node MediorNet system literally off the stand at NAB," he recalls. "L.A. Live, one of the world’s largest entertainment complexes, ordered an integrated signal transport and routing solution for the L.A. Live broadcast facility, Club Nokia, Nokia Theater and the Staples Center Arena. In addition, the Red Bull Air Race set-up is now based on MediorNet, whilst German public broadcaster ZDF has just used MediorNet for its coverage of the Presidential elections. There are also many other projects that are about to roll-out. My person opinion is that in time of crisis products which help to save money stand to do very well; MediorNet is one of them."
Other products shown by Riedel at NAB included the latest manifestation of the RockNet technology, RockNet 100, which provides a three-in-one interface for digital audio networks.
