Red Bull Studios' free training for female engineers extends to major UK cities

Red Bull Studios’ series of female-only workshops #NormalNotNovelty will tour the UK this September, with Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo, DJ Storm and Madam X among the names to head up dates in Bristol, London, Leeds and Manchester.

#NormalNotNovelty hopes to break the stigma of life behind the recording studio glass, encouraging women to get involved in music production, engineering and DJing.

As with the monthly London events, access to these sessions will be free. Aspiring female music producers, DJs and sound engineers can sign-up via the Red Bull Studios website.

World-leading female experts will make up the programme for the four-stop tour: industry newcomer LUCY will guide attendees through a production course, Radar Radio and Astral Black staple Jossy Mitsu will show future DJs the ropes, and radio producer Eliza Lomas will share her radio production journey.

Specific to certain dates, DJ and BBC 1 radio presenter Clara Amfo heads the London workshops alongside producer Hannah V (Hannah boasts credits on the upcoming JP Cooper album) and mastering engineer Ioana Barbu.

In Leeds, Dr Mariana Lopez – vice chair of the Audio Engineering Societya – will head up a masterclass in post-production and sound design. Ibiza regular Ceri will lead the production masterclass and drum and bass pioneer DJ Storm (of Storm and Kemistry) will bring her 30-year experience to a DJ workshop.

Closing the tour, Manchester-based engineer Katie Tavini and DJ Anz head the final workshop alongside the ubiquitous Madam X.

Heralded also for its onus on networking (each workshop is paired with a late-evening meet-and-greet), #NormalNotNovelty stands out as being one of the most rewarding programs for women looking to gain an insight and a foot into the industry.
