Radiohead touring with L-Acoustics

test 29 July 2008

USA/EUROPE: The band is using an extensive L-Acoustics rig for its latest live trek, writes David Davies. Touring the USA and Europe in support of acclaimed sixth studio album In Rainbows, Radiohead is utilising a system based around V-DOSC and dV-DOSC cabinets, supplied by Firehouse Productions (USA legs) and Wigwam (Europe). The tour marks a continuation of the band’s long association with L-Acoustics equipment that reaches back to its live dates in support of 2000’s long-player, Kid A.

For two concerts at Paris Bercy last month, the principal L-Acoustics FOH system comprised two hangs of 15 V-DOSC cabinets and three dV-DOSC, augmented by two side hangs of 14 V-DOSC and three dV-DOSC. The subwoofer specification consisted of 32 SB28s, while the entire system was used in conjunction with L-Acoustics LA8 amplified controllers.

“With the exception of the two shows in Bercy, all of the concerts are outdoor shows, [staged at ] stadiums, sheds, green field or amphitheatres, which makes the sound design very challenging,” said freelance system engineer and L-Acoustics certified V-DOSC engineer Sherif El Barbari. “I am impressed by the power of the 32 L-Acoustics SB28 subwoofers driven by LA8. Also, we have used the SB28 in cardioid configuration on four shows so far. The results are impressive.”

Having now completed its European run, Radiohead will next tour the US and Canada, beginning with an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival this Friday (August 1st). Recent commitments for the band’s USA L-Acoustics supplier, Firehouse Productions, include the 2008 induction ceremony at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in New York.
