GERMANY: A compact PA system from HK Audio, a new multicore speaker cable from Link, and a dual gate/compressor from TC Electronic were among the notable launches at an edition of the annual Frankfurt trade event arguably headlined by the surprise resignation of Telex EVI pro audio president Mathias von Heydekampf, reports PSN-e.
By common consent, von Heydekampf’s announcement was made in some style. Following 25 minutes’ discussion of new products and recent successes, he announced that “we aim to be number one and now as part of Bosch we will be”, adding: “But I will not be part of it.” Conceding reservations about Bosch’s ‘powersharing’ philosophy, von Heydekampf admitted that he had no plans beyond taking the summer off.
Elsewhere, it was the reassuring story of product, product and more product. HK Audio revealed two new bi-functional full range cabinets in its ConTour series – the CN 112 (pictured) and the CN 115 – and introduced the compact L.U.C.A.S ALPHA PA system. The latter is said to combine the ease of use of the earlier L.U.C.A.S series products with the sound and power of a large PA, resulting in an ideal solution for band audio and ‘power-DJ’ applications.
Priorities for TC Electronic in Frankfurt included the introduction of the C400XL dual-gate/compressor designed for both live and studio use. The unit’s multiband dynamics technology can be deployed to compress any source – from vocals and percussion, to guitars and keyboards. Also on the company’s stand was Konnekt Live, an audio interface for live performers that is bundled with Ableton Live Lite 6 TC Electronic Edition and two DSP effects: Fabrik R Live and Fabrik C Live.
Link, meanwhile, introduced the latest addition to its eurocable line of ultra-flexible speaker multicore cables designed for the connection of multi-amplified portable systems. The LK48N40AD2 48 conductor hybrid multicore – which comes with two AES Digital Audio Pairs – is said to provide strength and flexibility for portable applications while maintaining excellent electrical properties. Link has also developed a compatible 54-pin hybrid LK Connector capable of terminating all speaker and digital conductors.
Other highlights from the typically frantic four-day show included three new amplifiers from Martin Audio (MA18K, MA12K and MA9.6K); two new additions to Nexo’s GEO S Series of tangent-array loudspeakers (GEO S1230 and S1210); and from Dolby Lake, the new KIT989 CobraNet Card, an update to version 4.2 of the Dolby Lake Controller software, and a demo version of the forthcoming ‘plug and play’ technology for the Dolby Lake Processor, entitled Dante. Developed by Australian company Audinate, Dante Audio Networking uses standard, off-the-shelf internet protocols to link together hardware processors in a flexible, low-latency, cost-effective and easy-to-use fashion.
