Production Works upgrades to PRO9

Production Works, which is based in Hobart, Tasmania, acquired the PRO9 package from Victoria headquartered Midas distributor National Audio Systems. Top of the line in the PRO Series, the PRO 9 offers 88 inputs and 35 buses; and Production Works’ CEO Tony Miller is more than satisfied with his new set-up.  “The PR09 gives us identical features to the PRO6 but with expanded input channels live on the surface,” he explains. “This allows us to tackle larger theatre shows and concert events without the need for multiple consoles.” Miller says the console’s analogue characteristics are of equal importance to the speed and flexibility that digital provides; and that the sound of a digital PRO is like that of the analogue XL4: “the sound quality all digital console manufacturers would die for”. The PRO6 is also making its touring debut with Manic Street Preachers, whose front man James Dean Bradfield made an appearance at the recent MPG Awards at the Café de Paris last week. The Welsh rockers’ Emmy-award winning engineer Chris Trimby says the PRO6 is now his first choice of console wherever he goes, because he feels in the PRO6, Midas has designed a digital board which retains an analogue feel.  “It’s laid out very intuitively; everything’s only one or two button pushes away, whether you’re hitting a channel or hitting the EQ button,” he says. “You can manoeuvre yourself round the board very quickly, and the pre-amps, probably the most important part of any console, are fantastic.” SSE provided the PRO6 console for the Manics tour, which is supporting the band’s tenth studio album Postcards From A Young Man; and will be used on fifty shows worldwide.  “I started my career on Midas consoles,” concludes Trimby, “and they were leagues ahead of anyone then. Maybe the gap narrowed over the intervening years, but with the PRO6 they have leapt ahead again.” www.midasconsoles.comwww.productionworks.com.auwww.sseaudiogroup.comwww.manicstreetpreachers.com
