PRO SOUND AWARDS 2015: Our marketing initiatives of the year

The marketing campaign around Powersoft‘s 20th (or XX) anniversary is among the four initiatives competing for the aptly named ‘marketing initiative of the year’ award at this year’s Pro Sound Awards.

The amplifier maker celebrated its birthday at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt in April with a well-attended Lego-themed bash at the APT-Apartment nightclub (pictured) – featuring a performance by the robotic Toa Mata Band – and a new-look stand designed around two ‘X’ motifs: an allusion to both its X Series power amps and two decades in business.

Martin Audio CDD launch, Prolight + Sound 2015Martin Audio, which called PL+S 2015 its “most positive Prolight + Sound experience in recent memory, also made a splash in Frankfurt with the launch of our second finalist, the CDD install loudspeaker range. The CDD series, billed as ‘the shape of things to come’, was unveiled at a press conference at its stand on Wednesday morning and demoed to more than 175 guests that evening in the Kap Europa conference centre.

A presentation by R&D director Jason Baird was followed by an invitation to the audience to walk the coverage pattern of a single CDD12 (pictured above right) and the opportunity to listen to the larger CDD15 and double 18 subs (CSX218) in a specially constructed nightclub zone.

South Korean singer leeSA last month beat 167 other entrants to be be crowned champion of Sennheiser’s ‘Are You D1 and Only?’ competition, launched at NAMM in January to promote its Evolution Wireless D1 microphone system. The contest sought to find the most creative cover version of 1991 №1 The Only and Only by Chesney Hawkes, who was at the Sennheiser stand for the launch.

The winner was chosen by public vote and an “expert jury” which included The One and Only composer Nik Kershaw, Sennheiser CEO Dr Andreas Sennheiser, Walk Off the Earth’s Joel Cassady and Anastasia Schoeck from Imagem Music.

Roland M-5000 launchLast but not least, Roland is vying for the judges’ vote for the launch of its M-5000 OHRCA console, which was described by PSNEurope as ‘a huge step forward’ when it broke cover last November.

Pictured, right, is the first mention of the OHRCA platform in the press (in the pages of this very magazine!).

Recognising outstanding achievement in professional audio, PSNEurope‘s Pro Sound Awards return to the Ministry of Sound nightclub in London for the third time on Thursday 24 September.

The shortlist of finalists for each category will now be presented to a 50-strong panel of judges from across the spectrum of the pro-audio industry, who will ultimately choose the winners of each Pro Sound Award (with the exception of the grand prix and lifetime achievement gongs, chosen by the Pro Sound Awards team, and the rising star award, chosen by our sister title, Audio Media International).

Leading studio equipment manufacturer Focusrite, which sponsored February’s PSNPresents event at the Ham Yard Hotel in Soho (see Rapturous reception for inaugural PSNPresents), is already confirmed as the first event partner, lending its support to the studio category.
